AFS YAC&Festival Guest Artists

Jim Walker, professor of practice, winds and percussion, graduated with honors from the University of Louisville and went on to play in the United States Military Academy Band at West Point. He subsequently studied with Harold Bennett and eventually won the associate principal flute position with the Pittsburgh Symphony in 1969. Eight years later he became principal flutist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and began working simultaneously in the recording studios for jazz/pop sessions, television and motion pictures and can be heard on over 600 sound tracks. In 2002 he performed with Paul McCartney at the Academy Awards. In 1980, Mr. Walker formed Free Flight, a jazz/classical quartet, resulting in four Tonight Show appearances, 16 recordings and annual tours.

FlutAria! is a professional flute trio comprised of Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex flute professors Terri Sánchez (UTA), Shauna Thompson (TCU) and Julee Kim Walker (TAMUC). Founded in 2016, FlutAria! strives for a wide range of repertoire and style for their performances. 


FlutAria! trio has performed at the Texas Summer Flute Symposium, the National Flute Association (NFA) conventions in Minneapolis, MN and Orlando, FL, and the Florida Flute Association Convention, and has given masterclasses at University of North Texas and the Texas Summer Flute Symposium.

Nicole Riccardo is a flutist, educator, and social media + branding consultant. She specializes in content creation and social media management for other musicians and music businesses. 


Since the creation of her own successful business, Nicole now uses her blog and online course to teach other musicians and creative entrepreneurs how to make a living doing what they love.

Giovanni A. Pérez has become among the scarce musicians who are experiencing a bountiful career exploring their ambitions as a music educator, music entrepreneur, and multi-faceted performing artist.


Mr. Pérez is a musician whose personal mandate is to encourage and cultivate aspiring performing artists to embrace their innate gifting of music to make the world a better place.

Dr. Julee Kim Walker a native Houstonian, remains an active performer and pedagogue in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex.


She is Assistant Professor of Flute at Texas A&M University-Commerce, and Artistic Director of the annual Texas Summer Flute Symposium. In addition, she also serves on the National Flute Association’s Cultural Outreach Committee.
