2021 Young Artist Competition: Collegiate Division

Cash prizes of $500, $300, and $200*

Eligibility, Repertoire & Application Instructions

The 2nd Annual Collegiate Division of the YAC is open to students currently enrolled full time at a university. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. All applicants must be members of the Austin Flute Society at the time of application.


To be considered, flutists must complete the online application and submit an audio recording of each of the required preliminary-round pieces and submit the completed application at OR send all materials through email to by February 15. The online application includes a fee of $55.


Preliminary-round recordings should be submitted as mp3 audio files should not contain any identifiable information in the recording, but they should be labeled with your first initial and last name followed by the composer’s last name (Ex: JSmithMarais).

Preliminary Round Repertoire (Recorded)

1. Les Folies d’Espagne for solo flute by Marin Marais, Theme and 4 Variations of choice (Barenreiter Edition) 

2. Air for solo flute by Toru Takemitsu. 

Deadline for the preliminary recorded round (audio) is February 15, 2021.


At the conclusion of the final round, three winners will be announced.

Cash prizes of $500, $300, and $200 will be awarded to the top three performers.  

*Previous prize winners are not eligible to participate.
