AFS Lesson Scholarship

The Austin Flute Society is excited to announce a new scholarship program that enables interested and deserving students in the area to receive free private lessons with one of our organization’s flute instructors for the 2024-25 school year.
 
Students do not need to be an AFS member or have previous lesson experience to apply. The winner of the scholarship will also be awarded a one-year student membership and be encouraged to attend AFS events throughout the year.
 
Eligibility
●      Students must attend a public or private school (grades 6-12) and must be enrolled in a band or music program.
●      Students must provide contact information for band director or teacher who will be filling out recommendation form.
●      Applications must be submitted no later than Saturday, June 15th at 11:59pm.  Recommendation form must be submitted no later than Saturday, June 22nd at 11:59pm.

Lessons
●      The scholarship recipient will be granted a maximum of four private lessons per month for ten months (August 2024 - May 2025).
●      Private lessons will be scheduled with an Austin Flute Society instructor and will be based on location and studio availability.
●      Private lessons will take place at a convenient and agreed upon time, including the scholarship recipient’s campus pending district approval.

ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS 

This scholarship requires the involvement of the recipient in the Austin Flute Society and its events and offerings.  If chosen for the scholarship, the student will be required to do the following:

1) Attend the annual 2025 Austin Flute Festival (April TBA)

2) Perform at one of our members' recitals events in the fall or spring

3) Additionally, the recipient must also participate in ONE of the following activities:

  • The AFS Young Artist Competition

  • Membership in the Austin Youth Flute Choir

  • Attend an AFS live or virtual event 

  • Volunteer to work at the 2025 Austin Flute Festival
