The Austin Youth Flute Choir is open to flutists in grades 9-12 in the Austin area. Outstanding 8th grade students may also be considered with a private teacher’s letter of recommendation. All participants must have at least 2 years of prior experience playing the flute and must be taking private flute lessons on a regular basis.

 

AYFC is excited to begin their 2026 season in January! Read below for information on auditions, rehearsals, and performances.

All events are from 4:00-5:30 PM

Jan - 25

Feb - 1, 8, 22

March - 1, 8, 22, 29

April - *Friday 10th - Dress Rehearsal @ Huston-Tillotson University - time TBD

 

Spring Performance (at the Austin Flute Festival): 

Huston-Tillotson University

Saturday, April 11: Time TBD

 

Audition Information:

Auditions and Registrations open December 1 and are due December 31, 2025

Audition Material: 

-Scales: Ab major and D major - two octaves

Chromatic Scale - as much as the student can play

-Music: 2 excerpts of contrasting styles, each no more than 2-3 minutes

Example: One technical excerpt and one lyrical excerpt from region etudes or a solo a student is currently studying. Each are prepared to show off both the student’s technical ability and musical/tone development. 

 

If student is interested in playing piccolo, please use the same audition material as above.
