About the Event
Brazilian flutist and Baroque specialist Laura Rónai will lead selected students in an exploration of Baroque expression in a virtual masterclass setting (on Zoom). Dr. Rónai is a leader in Baroque interpretation and will discuss how to use ornamentation, tempo, articulation variety, and national styles to create an authentic and expressive performance.

Bio:
LAURA RÓNAI has a Bachelor’s degree in teaching from UNIRIO (University of the State of Rio de Janeiro), and in Performance from the Purchase Conservatory of Music - SUNY). Her Master’s degree is from Hunter College, and her Doctorate from UNIRIO. Since 1994, Dr. Rónai has been tenured Professor of flute at UNIRIO, where she holds the position of Flute Chair and head of the Voice and wind instruments department. She was an editor of Pattapio (the Brazilian Flute Association’s journal) and wrote regularly for Fanfare Magazine. For the past few years she has been responsible for writing the program notes for OSESP (Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo). She is the founder and musical director of OBU (Orquestra Barroca da UNIRIO), a pioneering group dedicated to the music of the past.
