  • Tangled (movie)

  • Bol-Air-Oh! (Bolero with multiple flute overdubs)

  • The Lexus ‘December to Remember’ Song (original by Kujala, from YouTube)

Topics of discussion will include:

  • Similarities or differences in fingerings between World Flutes and modern Boehm flute.

  • Choosing different flutes within the same flute family, in different keys, resulting in easier Intonation and fingerings from transpositions, and brighter or darker timbre.

  • Discussion of contrasting stylistic requirements amongst the different musical cultures.

  • A recommendation for a World Flute “starter kit” for the modern flutist interested in delving into that world.

  • The minimum basic array of World Flutes required to work in a freelance environment, be it Broadway or studio work.

  • Time at the end, or at any point doing the presentation for Q & A

The Austin Flute Society is excited to announce the winner of our first full year private lesson scholarship, Nea Morales! Nea will be attending Johnson High School of Buda in the fall and will fulfill her scholarship lessons with our member, Julie Koidin.
Here is a little bit about Nea:
"My name is Nea Morales and I am going into my fourth year playing flute. I began learning my 6th grade year via zoom during the pandemic. My 7th grade year, I made the Region 18 Concert Band. This past year as an eighth grader I earned 3rd chair in the Region 18 Symphonic Band and Orchestra. Besides playing in my school’s Wind Ensemble, I was also a part of the Austin Youth Orchestra. I am now starting my freshman year of high school and I cannot wait to see where my musical journey takes me!"

If you would like to help AFS grow this amazing new scholarship program so that we can provide lessons for more students, please consider a tax-deductible donation to our Scholarship Fund.
